Steve Barnes, former member of the well-known duo Cellino & Barnes, died in a plane crash on Friday, October 2nd. His niece, Elizabeth Barnes, was a passenger on the plane and was also killed.
The final communications between Mr. Barnes and the aviation tower was caught here. In the video, you can hear the air traffic controller ask if everything is ok, to which Barnes confirms, “Yes, sir, everything is fine…”. Shortly after, the plane made a rapid descent and air traffic control could not reach Mr. Barnes before he ultimately crashed.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the crash and what could have gone wrong in those final moments. They will not travel to the scene of the crash due to COVID-19 concerns, according to WIVB News. A preliminary report of their findings should be ready in the next few weeks.
Beloved by his large staff of lawyers and feared by insurance companies across New York, Steve Barnes leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication that every personal injury lawyer hopes to one day achieve. The Cellino and Barnes jingle was an iconic song that got stuck in the heads of millions of people. Though Cellino and Barnes dissolved their partnership and the phone number no longer exists, New York residents will be humming it for years to come.
