Patients Say They Were Not Warned of Potentially Fatal Bleed Outs!
According to Bloomberg (12/4/14), there has been 65 deaths blamed on Xarelto bleeding complications, and many lawyers suggest that number could easily skyrocket into the thousands. Lawsuits have already been filed for plaintiffs who have experienced severe side effects connected to Xarelto.
What is Xarelto?
It’s an anticoagulant new to market that has come under fire as of late. Most are familiar with the drug Coumadin (warfarin), the go-to blood thinner that’s been around for 50 years or more and is one of the top prescribed medicines in the world. Xarelto has only been around for only a few years, and it’s getting lots of heat because there’s currently no way to reverse the bleeding from an unexpected patient bleed out.
The supposed benefits of Xarelto is that it requires less monitoring and much less hassle for the patient. At least, that’s been the sales pitch. Coumadin has always come with a proper escape route, as it should. If a patient experiences any bleeding, you can always pump vitamin K into their blood stream. This would reverse the blood thinning properties and stop the patient from bleeding to death. With Xarelto, or the other new age blood thinner Pradaxa, there is no such escape route.
To make matters worse, many plaintiffs are claiming that the manufacturers and marketers tried to hide this important fact from not only consumers but doctors as well.
