This week six bay area children forced into prostitution were rescued by the FBI during a nation wide sweep designed to crack down on sexual exploitation. Twelve pimps were also arrested during the three day operation along with 60 adult prostitutes and 54 people arrested for soliciting prostitutes.
The operation was part of the nation wide Innocence Lost National Initiative, a joint effort between FBI, the U.S. Department of Justice and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
According to FBI officials there was fourteen separate operation going on through out the Bay Area. The rescued children were found in Oakland, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and unnamed parts of Contra Costa County and Alameda County.
The Innocence Lost Initiative has rescued more than 3400 children from sexual exploitation since its inception and arrested and convicted more than 1400 suspects of sexual exploitation of minors.
