What the CHP Reported
The California Highway Patrol said the two-vehicle crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, on Highway 198 outside Naval Air Station Lemoore.
According to the CHP's preliminary account, a 70-year-old Armona man driving a Kia Soul west on Highway 198 did not stop at a red light. A 49-year-old Lemoore man driving a Chevrolet Camaro was traveling south from the base area and making a left turn when the vehicles collided.
The Camaro driver died at the scene. The Kia driver was taken to a Fresno hospital with major injuries. The Camaro driver's name had not been released.
Why the Location Is Described More Than One Way
ABC30 described the site as Highway 198 at Enterprise outside the air base. KMPH and YourCentralValley placed it near Reeves Boulevard and 25th Avenue. The reports concern the same crash because they match on the 6:30 a.m. time, the Camaro and Kia Soul, the drivers' ages and hometowns, and the fatal and major-injury outcomes.
The CHP was still investigating why the Kia driver did not stop. This article describes the agency's preliminary account and does not make an independent finding of fault.
