What Families Should Know
A head-on collision can involve questions about lane position, speed, visibility, mechanical condition and road design. A preliminary description does not answer those questions. The vehicles and their electronic data should be preserved until investigators and the families have had a fair opportunity to inspect them.
California families can request the collision report, medical and coroner records, and available insurance information. If evidence later points to a public roadway issue, a written government claim can have a much shorter deadline than an ordinary wrongful death lawsuit.
This article does not make any finding of cause or fault. The investigation remains open.
