A Woman Was Found in the Westbound Lanes

The California Highway Patrol said its Golden Gate Communications Center got reports at about 12:49 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, of a large obstruction in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near the Cordelia truck scales in Fairfield. Callers first described it as a large animal or a possible body. CHP Solano Area officers found a woman in the roadway who had died. All westbound lanes were stopped for a time.

The Truck Driver Thought He Hit a Box

Investigators said a 59-year-old Oakley man was driving a 2015 Peterbilt truck and semi-trailer that merged onto westbound I-80 from westbound State Route 12 and struck the woman in the number 6 lane, according to CHP. Believing he had hit a large box, and with damage to his radiator, the driver pulled into the westbound truck scales. Officers there found physical evidence linking the truck to the crash.

CHP said drugs and alcohol are not suspected for the truck driver. The woman has not been identified, and the investigation is ongoing. CHP asked anyone with information to contact its Solano Area office.

What Families Should Know

When a commercial truck is involved, there is usually a trucking company and a commercial insurance policy behind the driver. Trucks also carry data, such as engine and GPS records, that can show speed and timing. That information can be lost if no one asks for it early, so families often benefit from getting advice before the evidence is gone.

This article does not make any finding about cause or fault. The investigation remains open.
