Tragic Accident Unfolded on the 2200 Block of East 12th Street Resulting in a Homeless Man’s Death

Fresno, CA –In East Oakland, a high-speed vehicle collision led to a tragic death in a homeless encampment. A man in his 50s lost his life after being struck by a wrought iron fence displaced by an errant car.

The Incident

In the early hours of October 7, 2024, a tragic accident unfolded in East Oakland, claiming the life of a man in his 50s who resided in a local homeless encampment. The unfortunate incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on the 2200 block of East 12th Street when two cars engaged in high-speed travel westbound near 23rd Avenue.

The collision between the vehicles resulted in a 2008 Acura TL losing control and crashing into a fence that encircled the encampment. The victim, standing just inside the fence, was struck by a large section, suffering fatal injuries. The driver of the Acura sustained minor injuries and was soon released from medical care.

In a concerning twist, the other vehicle involved fled the scene, challenging authorities to locate the missing driver. The deceased’s body was found two days later by a woman who also lived in the encampment; she described him as a friendly figure in the community.
