The Nap Nanny is a foam baby recliner shaped like a conventional car seat. The seat has a three point harness that straps the child in to the seat. In 2013 the Nap Nanny was recalled due to severe injuries and deaths caused due to using the seat. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ordered the recall after reports of injuries and deaths after kids fell from the seat partially and hung from the side. There were other reports that infants were strangled by the harness or were suffocated by the fabric of the seats.
So far the Nap Nanny has tragically claimed 6 children’s lives, two of which occurred after the product was recalled. The latest incident shows that despite the CPSC’s best efforts the product is still out there and still being used. The CPSC is urging any parents to immediately stop using all Nap Nanny and Nap Nanny Chill recliners and remove them from your home immediately.
It is illegal to sell or resell Nap Nanny Recliners in store but be sure to stay away from them, at second hand stores, garage sales, or online auctions or classifieds.
