In late March 2017, Ford recalled more than 570,000 of its vehicles sold in North America and Europe to repair two problems. The engine fire recall affects 360,000 of the recalled vehicles include the:
• 2014 Escape SUV
• 2014 and 2015 compact Fiesta ST
• 2013 Fusion midsize car
• 2013 to 2015 Transit Connect small van
The vehicles are being recalled because a little to no coolant circulation could cause overheating and the cylinder to crack. If this problem occurs pressurized oil can leak into the crack. Once the oil hits a hot surface, an engine fire may occur. According to the Ford recall announcement, 29 engines fires happened in the U.S. and Canada.
The second Ford recall involves door latches on:
• 2014 Fiesta
• 2013 and 2014 Fusion
• 2013 and 2014 Lincoln MKZ
A pawl in the door’s latch can break. The breakage will stop the doors from properly closing or cause the door to open while individuals are driving. These recalled vehicles add to a previous 2015 recall of approximately 757,000.
Owners affected by the Ford recall are advised to stop driving the vehicles. Ford will mail instructions to them regarding how get their vehicles repaired. However, vehicles with coolant leaks should be returned to the dealer.
