The man was in the roadway outside a marked crosswalk when he was hit. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The driver did not stop, did not report the crash to law enforcement, and drove away. The CHP identified the victim as William Allen Spears Jr., 48, of Sacramento. KCRA, the Sacramento Bee, ABC10, and FOX40 reported on the case.<\/p>\n<h2>How the Case Changed<\/h2>\n<p>When Spears was first found, his visible injuries appeared minor, and CHP officials said they were waiting on a determination of the cause of death before calling it a hit-and-run.
