According to the CHP's preliminary investigation, the woman had been riding as a passenger in a vehicle on eastbound Highway 4 when an item was lost onto the freeway. The vehicle pulled over in the center median, and the woman got out and walked into the traffic lanes to retrieve the item. She was struck by two vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Both drivers stopped and cooperated with investigators, the CHP said. Officers said they do not suspect alcohol or drug impairment as a factor at this time.
