Chesley had no room to avoid the vehicle and was forced to lay his motorcycle down on the highway. He went down at speed and was left lying in the roadway, seriously injured.<\/p>\n      <p>When he looked up from the ground, he saw Mike Tyson standing over him. Tyson, the retired heavyweight champion who had been living in Las Vegas for years, had apparently been nearby and stopped when he saw the crash. According to Chesley&#8217;s attorney Stephen Stubbs, Tyson immediately began yelling at other people not to touch the injured rider \u2014 which was exactly the right call. Chesley told Stubbs he thought he was hallucinating. &#8220;He thought he was in some other world,&#8221; Stubbs said.<\/p>\n      <p>Tyson stayed at the scene until paramedics arrived. Then, as Stubbs put it, he &#8220;just left, like some kind of superhero.&#8221; Chesley, who had managed to use his right hand to snap a cellphone photo of Tyson during the incident, was transported to a hospital. He had suffered broken bones and torn ligaments and was told he would need shoulder surgery. He was later released from the hospital.<\/p>\n      <p>The story became national news when Stubbs shared the details with the Associated Press in late September 2014. By the following Friday, Chesley had sent Tyson a handwritten thank-you note and a fruit basket. Tyson&#8217;s assistant Steve Lott confirmed the gift arrived and read the note aloud to reporters: &#8220;Thank you so much for looking over me after my accident.
