work?<\/p><p>UAB researchers say that they do. They\u2019ve reviewed over 10 years of data and concluded that certain texting bans can reduce teen traffic deaths by as much as 11 percent.<\/p><p>The results of the study varied state to state, but it was clear that where officers had the authority to pull over drivers for no other reason than for texting, there were significant results. Primarily enforced texting laws have been successful in targeting the group at most risk: young drivers. Bans against handheld devices also showed significant results in reducing traffic deaths among teens.<\/p><p>This is great news for drivers. While only 13 states ban handheld devices while driving, studies like this will only strengthen the push for further action.
